The installment of a new lighting system in the fountain areas of the Karamay River scenic area has been completed and Karamay residents can enjoy fantastic light and fountain shows along the banks of the Karamay River since May 1.
After several months of construction, the underwater infrastructure and devices are all ready for the official opening of the lighting and fountain displays. Compared with other fountain shows, the new system adds various visual effects including a laser light show.
The lighting and fountain project began construction last October, when the river was drained for winter to provide a water source to drought affected areas.
The new system will illuminate the night sky in time with music, similar to Hong Kong’s famous “Symphony of Lights”.
In December 2009, the Karamay River scenic area was named a national 4A level tourist spot. It winds through the city from the Jiulong Pond in the northeast to the Aykol Reservoir in the southwest.
